A Nightmare on Elm Street
Director: Wes Craven || Year: 1985 |
When you think of horror icons, who do you actually think of? Freddy Kruger has to be in the top five, espcially if you're old enough to remember renting VHS tapes based purely off the box art and how high up it was on the shelf. The first film in the franchise (there's been seven films in total, eight if you count Jason vs Freddy) is a seminal movie that blasted Wes Craven into the mainstream as a master of horror (yes, before Scream). The later films declined in quality but A Nightmare on Elm Street has to be at the top of any list of horror films that everyone needs to watch. Look, who doesn't enjoy films about a child murderer (and possibly a pedophile to boot) who comes back to life, just so they can kill even more children in their dreams, just for the fun of it? The original film centers around a teenager called Nancy (played by Heather Langenkamp), who's friends start to drop dead one by one while asleep. |
